One of my favorite feature pictures of the year is an image made for the NY Times by photographer Victor Llorente. It’s the lead picture for an article about a new balloon created by Yayoi Kusama called “Love Flies Up to the Sky” which made its debut in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. There is really nothing that remarkable about the image. It’s pretty standard fare for a working photojournalist. I admit to being totally captivated by the color, the moment of the piece first taking air, and most of all, the joy that this tentacled, polka-dot face of a sun creates. It’s yet another example of Kusama’s wit and the perfect antidote for a world - a country - that seems so bitterly divided at this time. But that’s the subject of another post - one I probably will never write because I’m (mostly) a sunny-side-of-the-street kinda guy.

Thanks for dropping by. This site coincides with what I am calling my coming out party that Kathy and Kevin Goldsmith are graciously hosting at their home. After years of working as a creative director for internet based companies, I decided that I would return to my roots: photography. I’m having a great time trying to stay open and aware about the things around me.
